Sapphire
This gem is a variety of the mineral Corundum, which is the hardest mineral after diamond. The blue colour and depth of this colour is caused by the presence and the amount of iron and titanium oxides in the mineral.

Sapphire is available in many different colours with blue being the most widely known. All other sapphires are just prefixed with their colour with exception to a red sapphire which is known as a ruby.

Sometimes called "gem of the heavens", Persians believed that the earth rested on an enormous sapphire and the sky reflected its beautiful colour blue.

As well as being the birthstone for September, sapphire is believed to help one achieve their creative potential.
