Dichroic Glass
Reputedly the bi-product of NASA experimentation, dichroic glass is much prized for its vivid colours and random patterns. To create dichoric glass thin layers of metal oxides such as titanium and magnesium are placed onto the glass surface in a high temeperature vacuum. The result is that the glass obtains a dichroic coating which reflects light and gives an iridescent appearance and a rainbow spectrum of colours as the glass is viewed from different angles.As the process produces random colouration each piece of glass is truly unique and beautiful.
